INSTALLING YOOZ
1/ Minimum requirements
- You will need at least System 7.0 to use this program.
- Succesfully tested with these Mac :
Mac SE/30, PowerBook 140, PowerBook 145, PowerBook Duo 210, 270c, PowerBook 540c, Mac IISi, Mac IIci, Mac IIvi with or without 50 Mhz PowerCache card , Quadra 610, Quadra 650, Quadra 800, Power Macintosh 6100/66 (and Macintosh 6100/80 :-) …), Power Macintosh 8100/80, Performa 6200
- Succesfully tested with these printers :
StyleWriter, StyleWriter II, Color StyleWriter Pro, Color Stylewriter 2400, Laser Pro 600, HP DeskWriter 560c, Epson Stylus Pro,
- Succesfully tested with these softwares :
7.0 system, 7.01, 7.1, 7.5 beta, 7.5 with or without virtual memory, with or without 'New Memory Manager', with or without RamDoubler, with or without SpeedDoubler, 16 or 32 bits, with or without QuickDraw GX.

2/ Yooz files
+ YooZ : This is the main part of the package. You can put this program where you want on your disk.
+ Yooz Prefs is the preference file of the YooZ program. This file is used to remember the user setup. This file is in the 'Preferences' folder.
+ SPYßg : This system extension will record the names of the programs launched on your machine. It will also record the date, the time and the duration of each session. If it's icon doesn't appear as here you may rebuild your desktop, with all extensions disabled.
+ SPYßg Prefs is the preference file of the Spyßg extension. This file is in the 'Preferences' folder.
+ JobLog : This is the history file created by SPYßg extension. This is the main file used by Yooz. This file may be present in the 'Preferences' folder.
3/ Installing YooZ
- To start using YOOZ, first copy "SPYßg" to your extensions folder
- Restart your Macintosh.
4/ Running YooZ
- You can now run Yooz.
- Enter your name for future registration (the name will be used when computing your registration code).
- On the first start of Yooz, the program may ask you for the Joblog file. It may be present in the "preferences" folder. If no Joblog file can be found, the Spyßg extension is probably not installed.
- When launching Yooz, you may choose another Joblog file by depressing the shift key.
- If you were using an older version of Yooz, you may discard "Yooz Data" file which is in the "preferences" folder, as it is no longer needed.
Yooz menus
1/ The menu - About
- The About … menu, gives you some informations about the author, and on the Shareware status of your version of YooZ.
- The registration of your SHAREWARE is the best way to expect new releases of this program.
2/ The File menu
a) Open
- You may choose this item to read another Joblog file, for example the one of a networked Macintosh.
- Usualy Joblog files may be in the "Preferences" folder.
- A progress window will be displayed to show you that YooZ is 'compiling' the Joblog file.
b) Close
- This item closes the frontmost window.
c) Page Setup
- You may use this item to setup the printing options.
d) Print
- This function only works with a registered version of Yooz.
- This item prints the frontmost window.
- This item works only with the following windows : History, Programs list, Infos, Stats or Graph.
e) Quit
- Use this item to quit YooZ. When quitting Yooz, the windows position are saved if so configured in the Setup menu.
3/ The Edit menu
a) Copy
- This function only works with a registered version of Yooz.
- This option is available with the graph window if graph is selected, and also with History and Program List windows if a line is selected in the list.
b) Show Clipboard
- Use this item to see the Clipboard content.
4/ The Windows menu
a) Get Infos
- Get Infos shows you informations about the machine from which you are reading the history file.
b) History
- The History shows you detailed usage of the machine.
- For each session you will see the launch date and time, the program name and the session duration.
- At the bottom of the list is displayed the total time for the selected period.
- The 'Period' button lets you change the period for the history.
- You may display the previous period by clicking on the left arrow button or by typing the '-' key.
- You may display the next period by clicking on the right arrow button or by typing the '+' key.
- If there is a selected line in the list, you may copy it in the Clipboard by using "Copy" in the Edit menu.
- If you double click on a program name, you'll get the records for this program, for the selected period, like shown below :
- At the bottom of the list is displayed the total time of the period for the selected program.
- The "All the programs" button will show the complete history for the selected period.
- The 'Period' button lets you change the period for the history.
- You may display the previous period by clicking on the left arrow button or by typing the '-' key.
- You may display the next period by clicking on the right arrow button or by typing the '+' key.
- If there is a selected line in the list, you may copy it in the Clipboard by using "Copy" in the Edit menu.
- When you click the small "graph icon", you get a graph for the selected program, witin the present period.
c) Program List
- This item shows you the total used time by program for the selected period.
- The 'Period' button lets you change the period for the history.
- You may display the previous period by clicking on the left arrow button or by typing the '-' key.
- You may display the next period by clicking on the right arrow button or by typing the '+' key.
- To sort the list by name, click on the 'list by name' button.
- To sort the list by duration, click on the 'list by duration' button.
- It's possible to select a program (ie to get a copy ot the corresponding line in clipboard), by typing the first letter of its name.
- You may move the selection upward or downward by typing the 'Up Arrow' or 'Down arrow' keys.
- If there is a selected line in the list, you may copy it in the Clipboard by using "Copy" in the Edit menu.
- Double clicking on a program name, or typing "enter" on a selected one will display the detailed history for this program during the selected period.
- When you click the small "graph icon", you get a graph for the selected program, witin the present period.
d) Stats
- This item gives you some summarized data for the selected period.
- A session is defined as a start of a program, a period of use, followed by a stop of this program.
- The 'Period' button lets you change the period for the history.
- You may display the previous period by clicking on the left arrow button or by typing the '-' key.
- You may display the next period by clicking on the right arrow button or by typing the '+' key.
e) Graph
- With this item you will get a graph for the whole file, a year, a mont or a day period.
- The horizontal line at top right is followed by the average time for the selected period.
- To Select/De-select the graphic, just click on it. When selected, a dotted line appears, and you may copy it in the clipboard (Copy option of Edit menu).
- The 'Period' button lets you change the period for the history.
- You may display the previous period by clicking on the left arrow button or by typing the '-' key.
- You may display the next period by clicking on the right arrow button or by typing the '+' key.
- You may change the size of the window by dragging the grow box in the bottom right corner.
The position and size will be remembered by YooZ if you have selected this option in the Setup menu.
f) Choosing a new period
- This function only works in a registered version of Yooz.
- The following window is displayed when clicking on the "Period" button.
- You can choose between the whole file, a year, a month or a day period.
- According to the chosen period some days or months will not be selectable if there are no corresponding data in the "Joblog" file.
- To cancel your choice click the "Cancel" button.
- To get the chosen period clic "OK", or depress "Enter" key.
5/ The Utilities menu
a) Export
- This function only works with a registered version of Yooz.
- This menu is available when the History or the Program List windows are frontmost.
- This gives you the possibility to work with the YooZ data in another program like a Word Processor or a spreedsheet. The file format is "Tab Tab Return". You may choose the document type with the Setup menu.
b) Merge 2 files
- This function only works with a registered version of Yooz.
-This menu will merge two "Joblog" files in a third file (the originals files are not affected).
- A sort will occur to get the entries in order before saving.
- This sort could need a lot of time on small machines, with big files and depending on the initial order in the file.
- A progress window shows you the percentage of the operation.
c) Sort a file
- This function only works with a registered version of Yooz.

d) Cleanup a file
- This function only works with a registered version of Yooz.
- This item allows you to clean selected entries in the "Joblog" file. You may give a program name and/or a session duration.
- A new file is created, and the master file is not affected.
e) Setup
- There are two setup windows
- The first window is used to personalize the preference file of YooZ and has two parts:
- In the 1st part you will choose the windows which are displayed when you launch YooZ.
- In the 2nd part are buttons to allow or not color printing, allow or not YooZ to save the position of the windows, or hide Yooz's windows when Yooz is in background.
- The "Export to" button will choose the file format used by the "Export" menu.
- The "Colors" button will display the following window to preset various interface colours.
- To cancel clic on "Cancel" or depress "Escape" key.
- To confirm your choices click "OK" or depress "Escape" key.
- The second window is used to personalize the preference file of Spyßg.

This is very useful when you read Joblog files from networked Macintoshes. To access such
information you must install SPY ßg V 2.50 and upper.
- Performance enhancement when reading Joblog files. The "Yooz Datas" file is no longer
needed, because its data is included in each Joblog file. The speed is greatly improved, and
will be a very appreciated advantage when reading Joblog files from networked Macintoshes.
- Automatic column width adjustment, for the displayed date and time in history list.
- More accurate error messages.
- English dialog window displayed when launched from a non french system.
- In case of corrupted data in Joblog file, you may try again, with Shift and Option keys pressed
when launching Yooz. This may solve some problems.
Note : You may give more memory to Yooz than in the previous version. Up to now the memory used by Yooz was mainly taken in system heap. This was useful, but really slowed the process, mainly on PowerMacs with virtual memory. This problem was solved by using Yooz memory instead of system memory, but the total ammount of memory is the same than with older versions.
The drawback of this solution is the need to give more memory to Yooz when the Joblog is
greater, the great benefit is execution speed.
